The Barramundi fish is a favourite subject among Oenpelli artists. It is an important to some groups and may not be killed or eaten by them.
In Oenpelli mythology, the barramundi created the plunging gorges along which the East Alligator River flows through in the sandstone country.
Both fish depicted here are painted in the traditional x-ray style, showing some internal organs.
